Smoothing out the under belly....

OK......must sleep .......must stop obsession with MPG

Got the front grille blocked
http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...ite-10912.html

And had some positive results.
I was driving the same route that I had tested the block grille on today, so last night I got out a corrigated box that was in pretty good shape.

I already have factory abs plastic panels that cover the bottom and the front wheel wells. But the IMPUL body kit is 2 inches lower so the factory abs doesnt match up.

My goal was to address this front 18 inches and do the rest of the undercarrage later.
So yes, I cut up the cardboard and tapped it under there!!!!
BUT I left the ABS inplace......
Yes, it liiks pretty wimpy but it actually is pretty tight. I used clear packing tabe to seal everything up (temporary ...

i even matched the 'shields' in front of the tires that where on the factory panels

So off i go around 11 am. (same time as the blocked grille runs and same temp uotside 68)
same 7 mile section of highway 80.
60 mph 28mpg tires 42 (east bound)
61 mpg 30.1 mpg tires 42 (west bound)

30 MPG!!!!@!@!!@@#$%#$*$*%U$H I #Y&I:th umbup:

I had to head across town to hwy 50.
On the drive back - along a flat section
61 mph 30.8mpg!!!!!!

THis is the recap screen. when you resent the mpg screen it saves thelast7-8 mpg readings.

Notice that the max is 30!!!!!

I realize that the name of the game is 3 tanks, lifetime etc....
But I want to be able to get all the areo stuff done before my trip to Texas in Jan.
Im beginning to think that 33-35 might be posssible over a 10 hour day on the trip.

Sleep is for the weak.
Sniff some duct tape and get back under the car.
No sleep until the coroplast is in and you've posted coastdown figures !!!!

Keep up the good work

I looked at that and thought it was a mid size car. I thought it had a supercharger or something to be getting those numbers.

I just realized it is a mid size suv. That is great!

Belly pans and grill blocks are basically free and don't change the look of the car at all! Nor do they require any special driving to take advantage of.

I can recommend coroplast for a permanent underbelly panel. Ive had mine on nearly a year now, I've drug it across everything and it hasnt even torn. And it doesent cost anything and its light/easy to work with.

Thanks for the comments on the coroplast.

it's an 2002 Infiniti Q45 Sport. 4 door Luxury Sedan (think 745 MBW, Audi A8 4.2, Lexus 430)
bone stock 4.5 liter 340hp 0-6 5.9seconds 3800lbs, alum body parts.
epa combined is 18mpg.

My mistake AGAIN. I thought the Q series was the SUV of the line up.

30 MPG from a long wheel base luxo is even better (:

Start reporting those tanks. Get you your hypermiler badge.

I have installed the front under belly pan.
I used a large piece of plastic that was already dippled !!! i was so excited!!!!
ignore the yellow tap. That is now ben removed.

I was inspired by the Audi A8 under belly posted several days ago......
I think that this type of partial pan is more the intial appraoch. My concern is that a FULL MONTI will disrupt some of the built in flow and creat new problems.
If I can achieve 33+ on my trip to Texas with the partial then I am at 40% over epa on the freeway.

I'm kinda liking the the Idea of COLOR!!!???
